Technicians have a wide range of professional qualifications that open up paths to a variety of activities. These can extend to overarching, coordinating tasks as well as specific, technology-shaping tasks.
A new general examination regulation for vocational colleges (APO-BK) came into force in June 2015. These now also provide for a dual qualification that is largely integrated into the vocational school curriculum.
